Welcome to the Murals of Punta Gorda
The PGHMS is a non-profit, 501c(3) organization whose objectives include the Revitalization, Preservation and Economic Enhancement of our community through the painting of murals that depict the rich history of our area. We have no paid employees and the business of the PGHMS is conducted by a volunteer Board of Directors and Advisors.
On Friday, August 13, 2004, Hurricane Charley roared ashore in Punta Gorda with winds in excess of 160 mph destroying among other things, half of the 20 murals that had been painted since 1995. Since then we have also lost 2 additional murals to building resurfacing. We are in the process of re-painting these lost murals.
In 2011, we painted 2 Murals, “Hotel Punta Gorda" and "Hotel Charlotte Harbor” on the south walls of teh Charlevoi Condominiums. This leaves us with only 3 of the lost Murals to be reconstructed. It is still our short-term goal to reconstruct all of the lost murals within the next few years. You can follow our progress by visiting our NEWS page.
Renderings of all 27 murals are on display at the Punta Gorda City Hall and the Charlotte County Events and Conference Center.
We hope you enjoy this website and will continue to support our efforts.
